Ariana Grande is set to use her full name, Ariana Grande Butera, in the credits of the upcoming Wicked film, symbolizing a renewed connection with her father, Edward Butera. In an emotional interview with Entertainment Tonight, the singer-actress shared how the decision reflects her journey back to her roots, inspired by her experience on Wicked.
Grande tearfully explained, “This role helped me come home to little Ari and to reconnect with parts of myself.” The moment was made even more special when Wicked director Jon M. Chu allowed her to surprise her dad, a graphic designer, with the credits typography, which moved him to tears.

Ariana’s relationship with her father had been strained since her parents’ divorce when she was eight, and she previously opened up about their challenges in a 2014 interview with Seventeen. Though they reunited in 2018 and appeared together at the 2020 Grammy Awards, the Wicked film has taken this connection to a deeper level for Grande.
The Wicked (Part One) movie, which also stars Cynthia Erivo, premieres in theaters on November 22.
