Robbie Williams' Biopic “Better Man” Trailer Swaps Pop Star for CGI Monkey

Robbie Williams' Biopic “Better Man” Trailer Swaps Pop Star for CGI Monkey

Robbie Williams fans are in for a wild ride with the release of the first trailer for "Better Man", a musical biopic directed by The Greatest Showman's Michael Gracey. In an unexpected twist, the film uses a CGI monkey to portray the British pop star throughout his life and career, bringing a whole new layer of surrealism to the traditional biopic format.

The trailer, released by Paramount, introduces audiences to Williams’ life, narrated by the star himself: “I know what you’re thinking. What’s with the monkey? I’m Robbie Williams. I’m one of the biggest pop stars in the world. But I’ve always seen myself a little less evolved.” From his childhood playing soccer to his time performing on stage, every version of Williams is depicted as a monkey resembling a character from Planet of the Apes, complete with exaggerated facial expressions and mannerisms.

Despite the quirky visual choice, the movie follows the familiar structure of a musical biopic, chronicling Williams' meteoric rise to fame, his struggles with personal demons, and his ultimate resurgence as one of the most iconic entertainers of his time. The film showcases his journey from being the youngest member of the boyband Take That to his record-breaking solo career, all with a humorous twist that captures his unique wit and self-deprecating spirit.

The cast features a strong ensemble, including Steve Pemberton, Damon Herriman, Raechelle Banno, Alison Steadman, and Jonno Davies, who plays the monkey version of Williams. "Better Man" was co-written by Michael Gracey, Simon Gleeson, and Oliver Cole, and is produced by an extensive team of executive producers, including Williams himself.

Fans can expect "Better Man" to deliver both an entertaining and unconventional portrayal of one of Britain’s most beloved pop stars, combining heartfelt moments with cheeky humor — all with a monkey-sized dose of creativity.
