Dolly Parton Donates $2 Million to Aid Victims of Hurricane Helene

Country music legend Dolly Parton once again steps up to support those in need. On Friday, October 4th, the 78-year-old icon held a press conference in a Walmart parking lot in Newport, Tennessee, where she announced a $1 million personal donation to help those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Additionally, Parton revealed she would contribute another $1 million through her various business ventures, including Dollywood and Dolly Parton’s Stampede.

Parton expressed her deep connection to the region, saying, “These are my mountains, these are my valleys, these are my rivers… these are my people, and this is my home… I am totally with you, I am part of you, I love you.” Her heartfelt message emphasized her ongoing commitment to the communities that have shaped her career and life.

The $2 million donation will be directed to the Mountain Ways Foundation, an organization focused on disaster relief and recovery. Walmart U.S. president and CEO John Furner was also present at the event, announcing that Walmart, the Walmart Foundation, and Sam’s Club will pledge an additional $10 million toward hurricane relief efforts.

This isn’t the first time Dolly Parton has demonstrated her generosity. In recent years, she has donated to numerous causes, including providing funds for flood victims in Middle Tennessee in 2021 and a $1 million donation to vaccine research at Vanderbilt University in 2020, which contributed to the development of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine. Her My People Fund, launched in 2016, provided financial support to families affected by wildfires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Parton’s dedication to giving back stretches even further with her Imagination Library, a program she founded in 1995 that sends free books to children from birth until their first year of school. The initiative, which honors her father’s legacy, has distributed millions of books to children around the world.
