This partnership marks a significant leap in the automobile-music interface, with the MBUX SOUND DRIVE turning the car into a dynamic musical instrument that synchronizes motion with melody, enhancing the driving experience into an emotionally charged musical journey.
MBUX SOUND DRIVE leverages a host of sensors and sophisticated software to interpret driving dynamics like acceleration, steering, and braking, transforming these into musical expressions. This innovative system allows drivers to 'compose' music in real-time, blending their driving style with interactive musical creativity.
This launch is a continuation of the flourishing partnership between Mercedes-AMG and will.i.am, moving beyond conventional branding to a creative synergy. The concept, rooted in will.i.am's experience as a record producer, integrates car hardware with music software. The system responds to various 'in-car signals' such as acceleration, braking, energy recuperation, and steering angle, and can even interact with features like windscreen rain sensors to produce calming rhythms during rainy conditions, thereby enhancing driver focus and reducing stress.
The vision for MBUX SOUND DRIVE extends beyond providing a unique sound experience; it aims to evolve into an open music platform. This will enable artists worldwide to produce tracks in various genres using the MBUX SOUND DRIVE studio software, thereby pioneering a new immersive audio format.
Set to roll out from mid-2024, MBUX SOUND DRIVE will be available in Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with the second-generation MBUX system. For existing Mercedes owners, the MBUX Software Update will be accessible via an over-the-air (OTA) update, facilitated through the Update Wizard on the MBUX display or the Mercedes me app.
