King Charles III’s Coronation today will mark a new chapter in royal history. And on hand to witness it will be the Princess of Wales, who has made several appearances in the days preceding the ceremony – both to kick off the celebrations over the long weekend, and to greet the influx of esteemed international guests who have descended on London for the occasion.
On Friday night, at a reception held at Buckingham Palace to welcome those who had travelled to attend the coronation, Kate shook hands with foreign dignitaries and royals – including King Felipe VI of Spain, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, and US First Lady Dr Jill Biden – while wearing a very appropriate shade for the weekend’s festivities: royal blue.
It’s all part of a subtly patriotic style streak for the Princess of Wales, who also paid a visit to the Dog & Duck pub in Soho on Thursday in red, white and blue, the colours of the Union Jack flag. (For the low-key occasion, she wore a tailored bright red coat by Eponine London that revealed a blue lining as she walked, and a white shirt dress by Suzannah.)
While greeting international guests on Friday, she wore a dress by Self-Portrait along with a pair of sapphire and diamond fringe earrings that once belonged to the Queen Mother, and a sparkly silver clutch by Jenny Packham. May it be the first of many stand-out style moments to come from Kate Middleton this Coronation weekend.
