In the ultra competitive world of modern fashion modeling it is often difficult to be noticed – needless to say, building a successful international career can seem like an impossible goal for many women who wish to make a name for themselves in this glamorous arena.
However, for South American native and experienced world traveler Paula Weckerle, turning her childhood dreams into a vibrant reality has been an immersive process.
Paula has accomplished a vast number of goals within the industry, booking big campaigns for blue chip brands and traveling around the world for shoots and projects.
In a hyper-connected age where most Instagram users also fancy themselves potential style icons for the masses, traditional fashion modeling has become increasingly competitive on a global scale, for talented and tenacious individuals like Paula this only signals the need to elevate their game.
Ms. Weckerle has been a success story since her entry to the mainstream modeling markets, with renowned agencies like The Industry Miami, The Industry LA and Official Models in New York signing the young and magnetic centerfold and helping propel her career to higher levels.
We spoke to Paula about her career and upcoming projects. Here´s what she told us:
What inspired you to start modeling?
I was inspired by all the supermodels back in the 90’s. Ever since I was a teenager my dream was to become a fashion model!
How did you get your start?
I started when I was 14 years old. I still remember when I went to São Paulo with my mom because I was selected to be a finalist in the Elite Model Look. Everything happened so fast!
Who are your role models in the industry?
I love the work of most of all the 90’s models. But my favorites are Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Gisele Bündchen.
What are your favorite workouts and how do you keep yourself healthy?
For me working out is important for the soul. Then there’s the body! Once we understand that it becomes addictive! I do mostly bootcamp workouts but I am also into Yoga. I run 6 miles 5 days a week! My diet consists basically in healthy eating during the week days, but on the weekends I allow myself to eat whenever I am! Life is all about balance.
Where have you traveled for work? Anywhere in particular that stands out?
I’ve been to Chile, Portugal, Germany and Paris. Took a break when I was 18 to study and came back to modeling straight to the United States. Germany was a special place for me because I got to learn German and it was also the place that helped a lot with the beginning of my career. But now I fell in love with the United States, which was the country that gave me many opportunities. I am blessed to have the opportunity to work here!
Describe your career goals and what’s next for you.
I like challenging jobs. I love when I have jobs that I can try different things and improve my skills. I love getting out of my comfort zone! My goal for now is to keep focused and work hard for great things to come. It’s hard to say what’s next in this job but I can say that I am ready to what’s coming! This industry is a very competitive one and it also changed a lot because of social media, unfortunately. So for me having my clients and keeping myself busy it’s the most important thing now. And if something big comes, then it’s a plus!
